One World, One Race: la musica è un dono che unisce tutti noi, appartenenti ad un’unica e sola razza.
Siamo sempre stati convinti, e lo saremo sempre, che la musica sia uno degli strumenti di pace più potenti, efficaci e allo stesso tempo immediati che esistano. La musica è probabilmente l’unico linguaggio che ognuna delle sette miliardi di persone che abitano il nostro pianeta può potenzialmente capire ed utilizzare per comunicare con una qualsiasi altra persona, che sia di un’altra nazionalità, di un altro colore, di un’altra cultura, di un’altra religione o che parli un’altra lingua: la musica è gioia, libertà, amore, passione, vita, emozione, e soprattutto unione e condivisione. La musica è un dono che unisce tutti noi, appartenenti ad un’unica e sola razza: one world, one race.
Abbiamo ancora tutti negli occhi i tragici avvenimenti di questo ultimo periodo. Nizza, Bruxelles, Baghdad, Istanbul sono state teatri di stragi che lasciano il segno, che ci fanno vacillare. Certo, poi c’è quel brutto vizio della stampa occidentale di dare un peso diverso alle tragedie a seconda della distanza a cui sono avvenute, come se 250 morti a Baghdad contassero meno di 84 morti a Nizza; come se ci fossero vittime di serie A e vittime di serie B, ma tant’è, il nostro pianeta non se la sta passando bene ultimamente.
Pochi giorni fa Lisa Spada, cantante soul francese da diverso tempo in contatto con The Italian Soul, ci ha chiesto di dare un contributo video per un’iniziativa che vedeva coinvolta una buona parte della scena black francese. L’iniziativa in questione prende il nome di #BlackLivesMatter, una protesta partita circa tre anni fa da tre donne (Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, Opal Tometi) in risposta alle ripetute violenze a sfondo razziale da parte di forze di polizia verso la popolazione afro-americana, e ritornata in auge ultimamente dopo gli omicidi di Philando Castile e Alton Sterling. Ovviamente, abbiamo accettato subito la proposta: crediamo che in questo tormentato momento storico la musica possa avere un ruolo determinante, e di conseguenza noi musicisti.
E’ per questo motivo che ci piacerebbe replicare l’iniziativa di Lisa Spada anche qui, in Italia, cercando di coinvolgere musicisti di fama e non per realizzare un video che possa diventare virale, arrivando a quanta più gente possibile.
L’iniziativa è rivolta agli artisti e operatori del settore artistico. Consiste nel preparare un video messaggio libero contro la violenza razziale. Iniziate il messaggio dicendo chi siete e cosa fate e chiudete mostrando un foglio con la scritta.

L’obiettivo è prima di tutto quello di coinvolgere il maggior numero di persone che lavorano con la musica per fare arrivare il messaggio ad altrettante persone.

One world, one race: music is a gift that unites us all, we belong to one race, the human race.
We believe, and will always believe, that music is one of the best means to bring peace, so immediate and powerful as it is. Music is probably the only language that every single human being on the planet can understand and use to communicate with every other person, no matter the nationality, culture, color, religion he or she is: music is joy, freedom, love, passion, life, emotion, and above all unity and sharing. Music is a gift that unites un all, we belong to one race, the human race.
We all painfully recall the tragic events of these last months. Nice, Bruxelles, Baghdad, Istanbul have witnessed massacres that left deep scars, that really shook us. Surely the Occidental press has the bad habit to talk about the tragedies differently depending on where they have happened, as if 250 deaths in Baghdad were less important than 84 in Nice, as if there were class A and class B victims, thing is our planet is not doing well lately.
A few days ago Lisa Spada, a french soul singer connected to The Italian Soul, asked us to contribute with a video to an idea that involves a lot of artists of the french black music scene. This idea was #BlackLivesMatter, a protest movement that was started three years ago by three women (Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, Opla Tometi) in response to repeated racial violences from the police against the afroamerican population, which is now back because of the murders of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling. Obviously we accepted: we believe that music can play a predominant role in this tormented time, and consequently we as musicians.
It is for this reason that we’d like to repeat LIsa Spada’s initiative also here in Italy, involving known musicians, and not aiming to get a viral video, reaching as many people as possible.
This initiative in addressed to artists and to all the people in the music industry. We basically ask for a video message against racial prejudices. Begin the message by saying who you are and what you do and finish showing a sheet with the words:
#OneWorldOneRace
The aim is to involve as many people who work with music as possible to spread the message. Send us your video via Wetransfer at info@theitaliansoul.com
